Regenerative Stem Cell Therapy for companion animals and horses
4/28/08
Regenerative stem cell therapy is at the forefront of both human and veterinary medical technology. Stem cells are precursors to all of our body’s cells and can turn into any of those cells to aid in rebuilding or stabilizing damaged tissues. Stem cell therapy is already being used to treat debilitating arthritis and tendon injuries in both dogs and horses and can provide tremendous improvement in pain and function. On-going research has identified many more degenerative conditions that respond positively to this therapy.
Stem cell therapy involves collecting fat tissue from the patient and processing it to isolate the stem cells. These cells are then injected into the area of concern (i.e. joint or tendon). Improvement is often noticed within 2 weeks after treatment; a single treatment may provide a pain-free lifestyle for two years or more. Some animals even return to full function without the aid of pain medications. Additional stem cells can be cryopreserved for future treatments if needed.
Crater Animal Clinic is happy to offer this exciting new treatment. Please contact us to learn more about regenerative stem cell therapy and whether it might be right for your horse or pet.
